Kansas City Proposal Photographer

Griffin Creative Co is a documentary proposal photography studio based in Kansas City, Missouri. Since 2018, we have photographed couples across the metro.

As your surprise proposal photographer, we plan the location and timing with you ahead of the day, then stay out of sight. Your partner sees one more visitor with a camera, if they notice us at all.

How Surprise Proposal Photography Works

Every proposal starts with a short planning call.

  • Your mark. We pick the exact place you stand, with your partner facing our camera. Their face is the photo you will want most.
  • The time. We aim for the hour before sunset when your schedule allows.
  • The signal. A text, a hat coming off, or a phrase you say out loud tells us you are ready to walk up.
  • The backup. We choose a covered spot nearby in case of rain.

On the day, we work as a hidden proposal photographer: we arrive early and blend in with a long lens. After the yes, we walk over, say hello, and use the rest of your hour for portraits of the two of you. For a full walkthrough, read our surprise proposal planning guide.

Best Places to Propose in Kansas City

Start with a place the two of you care about, like the patio from your first date. For a classic backdrop, these Kansas City spots give us room to stay hidden:

  • Loose Park rose garden. Arbors, a pond, and roses at their peak in late spring.
  • Liberty Memorial lawn. A wide view of Union Station and the downtown skyline. Go at sunset.
  • Country Club Plaza. Fountains, Spanish tile, and holiday lights during the Plaza Lights season.
  • Berkley Riverfront. Open sky over the Missouri River and space for a long lens.
  • Your home. Candles in the living room or string lights in the backyard, with no crowd watching.

Some gardens and museum grounds set their own rules for professional photography. We check those rules during planning. Proposing in December? Our guide to holiday proposals in Kansas City covers seasonal spots and timing.

Travel within 35 miles of downtown Kansas City is included. Beyond 35 miles, travel is billed at cost and quoted as one flat number before you book.

ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions About Proposal Photography

How much does a proposal photographer cost in Kansas City?

Proposal photography at Griffin Creative Co runs $300 per hour with a one hour minimum. A second photographer adds $100 per hour worked, and rush delivery adds $200. Every price is listed on this page.

How does a secret proposal photographer stay hidden?

We arrive before you and take the spot we picked together during planning. A long lens lets us shoot from a distance, so we look like any other visitor with a camera. You get our exact position ahead of time.

Where should I stand when I propose?

Stand so your partner faces our camera. Their reaction is the photo you will want most. We set your exact mark during the planning call.

What time of day is best to propose for photos?

The hour before sunset gives soft, warm light. In Kansas City, sunset falls close to 9 p.m. in late June and before 5 p.m. in December. We check the exact time for your date and plan around the light.

What if the forecast calls for rain?

We pick a covered backup spot during planning. If the forecast changes, we text you in the morning and move the plan. Your partner never needs to know.

Do you photograph family and friends after the proposal?

Yes. Tell us how many people are coming and where they will wait. We photograph the celebration as part of your session.

What happens during the proposal photoshoot after the yes?

We walk over, say hello, and give you a minute together. Then we use the rest of your hour for portraits nearby, with light direction and room to celebrate. If family is waiting close by, we photograph the reunion too.

When will we get our proposal photos?

Your gallery arrives within 4 to 6 weeks, with 35 to 55 hand edited images per hour. Want photos sooner to share the news? Rush delivery brings your gallery in 1 week for $200.

Do you photograph proposals outside Kansas City?

Yes. Travel within 35 miles of downtown Kansas City is free, which covers Overland Park, Independence, Liberty, and Lee's Summit. Farther locations are billed at cost and quoted before you book.
